the design process
At Simon Watts Joinery, we take pride in our ‘concept to installation’ bespoke carpentry package. Our expert team will guide you through the entire process from start to finish to create the perfect addition to your property. Find out more about how the process works below.
The brief
We’ll meet with you to discuss your requirements, which often includes measuring up. For smaller projects, we are more than happy to discuss what you are looking for over a phonecall or email, if you find these methods more convenient. During the consultation, we can provide examples and ideas based on our previous work, and guide you through options such as type of wood, paints and stains, ironmongery, and finishing touches.
The design
Based on the initial discussion, our team will then work up a design concept and present this for your approval. We can amend and adjust the design as required, to ensure you are completely happy with it. Once this has been finalised, we brief our expert team of joiners.
The build
We are proud to lovingly craft our pieces in our Vale of Evesham workshop. Our team of specialist craftsmen has over 80 years of combined knowledge and experience in all aspects of machining, joinery, carpentry and cabinetry. Using the finest quality materials, our team use traditional methods and the latest technology to build and finish your bespoke piece to our exacting standards. Once it is ready, we will be in touch to arrange delivery or installation.
The install
The skilled fitters from the Simon Watts Joinery team will arrive on the agreed day and perfectly install your piece, ready to become a beautiful new addition to your home.
paints & finishes
Whether you have a specific paint colour or stain you would like us to match, or are looking for our guidance, we use only the highest quality products to finish your bespoke piece. We can create multiple finishes, and match any specification from our carefully chosen suppliers, to meet your needs.
We generally use the following brands – which have been selected for their quality and durability – however we are able to source and use any type of paint, oil and stain as required.
In-House Spray Booth
Our in-house spray booth allows us to deliver high-quality finishes with precision and efficiency across all our bespoke joinery projects. Whether it's custom kitchens, windows, doors, or more, our spray booth ensures a flawless, durable finish every time. By handling the finishing process internally, we uphold our commitment to offering faster turnaround times for our clients.
Aftercare advice
MAINTAINING YOUR NEW ADDITION
To ensure your new piece maintains its intended look, so that you can enjoy it for many years to come, we would recommend that you refer to the following guidelines for maintenance and cleaning. For specific advice or queries regarding maintaining your bespoke piece, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
CLEANING RECOMMENDATIONS
To keep dirt and dust at bay, we recommend gently wiping over the surfaces with a soft, slightly damp (non-abrasive) cloth, once a week or so. It isn’t necessary to purchase specialist wood cleaning products. In fact, spirit-based cleaners – and even general household furniture polishes – can be very harsh, and can even damage your piece, so we would recommend avoiding these.
CHANGES IN TIMBER PRODUCTS OVER TIME
Wood is a natural material, which contains moisture. This moisture expands and contracts with changes in humidity and temperature. Due to this, when your timber product is subject to environmental extremes – such as prolonged spells of hot and dry weather, or damp and humid weather – you may find some shrinking or expanding may occur, leading to very small movements or cracks in the wood. Here at Simon Watts Joinery, we make every effort to source the best quality and most well-seasoned timbers on the market, however due to the moisture that naturally occurs in all woods, it is usually inevitable that some movement will occur over the lifetime of your piece. We wish to assure our customers that this is very normal, and all part of the beauty of owning a bespoke wooden piece.
